You are generally correct except that financial media especially the electronic media are not for traders they exist to make ordinary investors the victims of traders by playing on emotions, fears, greed and other behavioral issues.

A good way to reduce noise is to get really knowledgeable in one or two industries or types of investment. When you know a lot you can tell what information is good and what is bad, plus you have a better chance of gaining an information edge.
