Partnership and Funding to Advance our Mission

Today we announced two exciting developments at Nebula Genomics.

The first is that we have acquired $4.3 million in seed funding for our mission from some of the top VCs in tech and biotech, including Khosla Ventures, Arch Venture Partners, Fenbushi Capital, Mayfield, F-Prime Capital Partners, Great Point Ventures, Windham Venture Partners, Hemi Ventures, Mirae Asset, Hikma Ventures and Heartbeat Labs.

We’re also providing details of how we’ll be working in partnership with Veritas Genetics, the leading whole genome sequencing and interpretation company. We’ll be working closely with the team at Veritas to integrate Arvados open-source software platform into Nebula. This will be an important building block for the transparent, secure, and decentralized marketplace we are creating for genomic data.

This is an exciting partnership because it provides core technology that will help build our platform and drive our mission forward.

Arvados was designed to streamline storage and processing of the enormous amount of data that are associated with genomics by minimizing data transfers and instead moving computations to where the data is stored. This distributed computing model not only eliminates the bottleneck of moving big data over the internet, but also helps address regulatory and privacy challenges. By having Arvados as part of the Nebula platform, we are able to offer data buyers the advantages of one of the most advanced bioinformatics platforms in conjunction with a marketplace that connects them directly with data owners including consumers, patients, and biobanks. Integrating Arvados with blockchain technology enables controllable and transparent data access sharing as well as equitable compensation of data contributors. This will build trust and create incentives to participation, leading to genomic data growth that will help advance research.

Both of these are big steps for us as we move quickly to get our marketplace launched and start moving this vital research forward. Keep following us for more updates as we realize the results of this funding and our Veritas partnership.
