Several counterpoints:

  1. Programming is easily automated, and already uses many automated tools. This is a why a small team today can do in a few weeks things that would have been a major undertaking only a few years ago. Follow the trend, and you’ll see ever more work being done ever more easily by an ever smaller group.
  2. Tech companies complain about worker shortages, but then expect entry level employees to have 5 years of experience. If the shortage of programmers was really so dire, they would offer entry level positions.
  3. How will automation reduce costs for the average person? Looking at my budget, the biggest item is rent. I can’t order a cheap apartment from AliExpress. Medicine is a very technologically intensive industry that rapidly gets more expensive as its technology improves. Education is getting more expensive too, in spite of various efforts to contain the cost.
  4. Consumers not being able to buy things is only one of capitalism’s many problems. The biggest is that exponential growth can’t go on forever.
