Several counterpoints:
- Programming is easily automated, and already uses many automated tools. This is a why a small team today can do in a few weeks things that would have been a major undertaking only a few years ago. Follow the trend, and you’ll see ever more work being done ever more easily by an ever smaller group.
- Tech companies complain about worker shortages, but then expect entry level employees to have 5 years of experience. If the shortage of programmers was really so dire, they would offer entry level positions.
- How will automation reduce costs for the average person? Looking at my budget, the biggest item is rent. I can’t order a cheap apartment from AliExpress. Medicine is a very technologically intensive industry that rapidly gets more expensive as its technology improves. Education is getting more expensive too, in spite of various efforts to contain the cost.
- Consumers not being able to buy things is only one of capitalism’s many problems. The biggest is that exponential growth can’t go on forever.
