The Housing Association of Nonprofit Developers (HAND) was established in 1991 with a goal of representing the professional interests of the nation’s housing providers. In June, the organization hosted its 27th annual meeting and housing expo at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. More than 1,400 housing and community development professionals attended the meeting, which centered on Undesign the Redline, an interactive exhibit that explored how systemic racism and discrimination has impacted housing from the 1930s up to the present day.

In addition to keynote speaker April De Simone, founder of Undesign the Redline, the 2018 Hand Annual Meeting featured guest speakers such as Vyjayanthi V. Rao, PhD, co-director of Terreform, and Gustavo Velasquez, director of Urban-Greater DC at the Urban Institute.
