Design Club — a new event series for the new creative community

Increasing numbers of designers are applying their skills to situations and contexts they were not trained for. The explosion in demand for digital product designers only happened over the last few years, and as a result, the field is young and largely unexplored.

Those who studied graphic design at university were indoctrinated into a world rich in history, and filled with leaders, educators, industry bodies, awards ceremonies, and graduate schemes. For those starting out, there was always something concrete to aspire to and someone ahead to look up to. While those more established had known platforms from which to share their stories and pass on their learnings.

On the other hand, digital product designers are often an island in a sea of developers and marketers. They apply traditional design skills to newer areas like service design, user experience, and software engineering. It’s unclear what community they belong to, who their peers are, who their mentors are, and what their career will look like.

That’s why we‘re starting Design Club — to provide some of that. Here we’ll be establishing a new infrastructure, identifying new leaders, nurturing a network, and providing a platform for upskilling and learning. It’s where this new creative community figure out what’s next — what’s next for them, and for the world they are helping to build.
