What I am observing here is monuments that have been defaced in protest but not destroyed. If I wanted to irreversibly destroy a monument I would take a sledge hammer to it, if I wanted to make a message I would simply spray paint that could be removed. It seems the perpetrators didn’t want to completely destroy these monuments but is possibly making a statement about where the monuments are placed and in what context.
