Travel as a Political Act

How can one make travel a political act?

Many define travel as the “movement or passage from one place to another” where as Rick Steves evidently describes travel as more than that.Steves claims that experiences are acquired from travelling, challenges one preconceptions and prejudices on the realities of other nations and when one does that ,one makes travel a political act.

According to Steves in order for one to make travel a political act it is important for one to get a richer understanding of the each culture and be open to connect with people from each nation. For example Steves uses an example of an encounter with an gentleman in Afghanistan that said to him that “a third of people on this planet eat with spoons and forks like you,a third of the people eat with chopsticks and a third of peolple eat with fingers like me.And we are all civilized”.
