Storychord: The Ultimate Story Time

Do you remember when you were a kid in elementary school and you had all these different classes for a well-rounded liberal arts experience? There were art classes, music classes, designated library time, and don’t even get me started on the book fairs. All of these expressive forms of art were practiced and celebrated separately and because of this, it turns out we were missing the mark all along in the full experience.

Artistic expression is not limited to each separate art — especially writing. This may seem obvious, but when thinking of literary magazines, people tend to think only of written word, yet instead of focusing solely on literary writing, one literary magazine seeks to combine all the genres.

Introducing Storychord: the melting pot of artistic expression.

The opening lines on their website say just this:
“ Every other Monday, Storychord features one story + one image + a one-song soundtrack — each by a different, underexposed artist — for a collaborative, multi-media storytelling experience.”

It completely immerses the audience into a full artistic experience — the ultimate story time. While being experimental — and fully achieving success — this online magazine is run like a blog, featuring differing artists from all over.

Each issue interweaves the lines and waves of word or sound into a throw to nest in. Go ahead, hide under the covers, just try to follow along.

The most recent issue, Issue #118, released on March 28th features artist Marissa Levien (“Art”), writer Leesa Cross-Smith (“A Tennis Court”), and musical talent Steady Holiday (“When I See Color”). These three different, yet spiraled pieces instill a feeling of childlike innocence, jumbled thoughts, and provocative nature.

It is truly a different experience to see with your eyes and your mind and to hear a soundtrack to the various pictures. It lingers more than any film and works your senses to a point where you feel an earned and accomplished fatigue. It demands very little, yet leaves much substance.

Do yourself a favor and check them out, submit even. Make a fort in the textures. Find yourself in the corners of your imagination. Revitalize, breathe, and experience the strum of Storychord.
