From Window 8 Microsoft added some functionalities like multi tasking feature, and you should know how to split screen on Windows 8. In Windows 8 instead of splitting two apps side by side, they split in 70/30 ratio.

However, with Windows 10 update Microsoft made significant improvements on the multitasking feature such as splitting the screen between apps in a ratio of 50/50 and 60/40. Moreover, if you try to resize an app the other will automatically fit into new window size.

If you have a laptop with 1366x768 pixel display, only two apps will support split screen. If you have a 1080p display, you can even make 3 apps on your screen.

This makes splitting apps much easier, just drag any app to left or right side corner and it will cover the half of the screen, and the other half screen will ask you to choose other apps to fill it.

When you open the Modern UI app, they will be opened in full screen, and you can not overlay them on your Desktop screen. The all new windows 10 has got this feature, you can open any modern app that they will overlay the desktop screen.

Multitasking in Modern UI (Split Apps across Screen)

Open at least two apps on your Windows 10 machines; choose those apps you want to divide across your screen. Now make sure one of the apps you opened is Full screen. For example below image is of Weather App on Windows 10.

There is two option,

If you are using touch input: You need to swipe from the left and then hold you finger, the app will be docked at the left side of the screen.

If you are using a mouse as input: Take you mouse cursor to the top bar of the app, click and hold and drag it a little towards the bottom side. Now drag it to the left side of the screen, wait till you see the sidebar and drag the app there.

Next slide you mouse cursor in left-top to left-down direction, the left sidebar will appear. Now choose an app by click and dragging it to the right corner of your computer screen.

You can remove the extra apps from the right sidebar, just drag them to the bottom of the screen, and they will vanish. Once you app is docked on one side of the screen, you can drag another app to the other end of the screen.

Your both apps will take a 50:50 ratio on the screen, by default both apps, will take safe space on your computer screen. You can change this ratio, read the next section. Below is the screenshot of Windows 10 split screen.

To change the ratio of the space occupied by the Modern UI apps, click on the Black vertical black link and drag it to the left or the other side. This is useful if you want one app in a large view and other in smaller view. But some apps may not able to run in smaller view, so give such apps at least a 50% ratio.

That was quite cool? Okey, that was splitting apps across the computer screen. Please note some app require large space by default, they might not work if you make them smaller or open them side by side within another app.

Using internet Explorer to browse the internet? In Windows 10 the default web browser is IE 11. To use multi- Windows browser mode you need to action these steps.

Press the Start button and open these IE 11 Modern UI app, make sure it opens in full screen.

Visit any website, and right click on a link and select “open in New Windows” that is it. A new IE windows will open.

Google Chrome will launch immediately in Modern UI mode. From there you can also make 2 web windows stacked to each side on the screen.
