Our addiction to links is making good journalism harder to read

For more narrative-heavy work where the reading flow should be maintained, don’t forget about Medium’s often-overlooked superscript¹² feature⁵³ [^ followed by a number]. Footnotes provide a good middle ground for including info or links at the end of a story without the temptation of a clickable link.

I basically agree that linking out creates an invitation to break the reading flow, but sometimes it’s the right decision for an article citing a lot of figures from lesser-known database sources.
