INTRODUCTION

If you find yourself been able to put forth good deeds, do not be deluded by shaytan that you’re a good person. It is by Allah’s leave that you’re able to do that. The noble Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal on his death bed was approached with whispering from shaytan. This ensued: “Oh Ahmad! All through your life, I’ve tried to lure you through several temptations but I’ve not been successful. Now you’re dying without me having my share on you”. Imam Ahmad responded: “not while I’m still breathing, I remain vulnerable to your tricks.” The catch for shaytan this time was to make the Imam feel secured by such a praiseworthy statement. And that would have been a detrimental end if he had affirmed.

INSPIRATION

Al-Nawwas bin Sam’an, radiyallahu 'anhu, reported that the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, said: "Righteousness is good character, and sin is that which wavers in your heart and which you do not want people to know about."

[Muslim]

According to Wabisah bin Ma’bad, radiyallahu 'anhu, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ’alayhi wasallam, and he said:"You have come to ask about righteousness ?" “Yes," I answered. He said: "Consult your heart. Righteousness is that about which the soul feels tranquil and the heart feels tranquil, and sin is what creates restlessness in the soul and moves to and fro in the breast, even though people give you their opinion (in your favour) and continue to do so."

REFLECTION

  • Being righteous could be synonymous with good manners, good deeds and submissiveness to Allah in all affairs.
  • Sin is a blameworthy act which wavers or trembles the soul and the perpetrator will not like to be caught while doing it.
  • The heart recognises when it indulges in a righteous act and when its perpetrating evil.
  • It pays to do righteous deeds so as to meet Allah pleased and get the goodly reward in stock for the good doers.
  • There’d always be recompense for the evil we do even if its an atom weight or done in secrecy.

CONCLUSION

We can live our lives in tranquility without panic if we choose to embrace righteousness. On the other hand, the world will not know peace if we decide to commit evil and cause harm to the people.
