Ramadan Day 22: Ask For All the Good Things

So he watered (their flocks) for them, then he turned back to shade, and said: “My Lord! Truly, I am in need of whatever good that You bestow on me!” — Qur’an 28[Al-Qassas]:24

All praise, thanks, and adoration are due to Allah — The Most-High, The Lord of the Majestic Throne. May His endless benedictions be showered upon our beloved Prophet peace be upon him. Subhanallah! Today is the twenty-second day of Ramadan and We ask Allah to grant us the ability to witness Laylatul Qadr and do good acceptable deeds. May we be among those who will be forgiven and admitted into the garden of bliss. Ameen!

Central Message

As we continue journeying through the supplications in the Qur’an, we stop by to reminisce about the story of the prophet Musa today. One time, Musa saw two men having a quarrel, one was from his kinsmen and the other was an enemy. The kinsman called upon Musa to aid him against the enemy. While Musa intervened, shaytan caused him to unknowingly kill the enemy. He then became fearful and anticipated a rebuttal or castigation. This caused Musa to flee away from Misra to the city of Madyan.

While he was away, he was desperately in need of refuge. He came across a crowd of people fetching water with two young ladies who couldn’t get access. He asked them what their situation was and they said their father was an old man and they needed help with watering their flocks. Musa assisted them with the hope of a reward from Allah. After he had completed the task, he sat down in a shade and made this humble supplication. Guess what happened next? Allah sent down help to him with immediate effect. Here’s how the Qur’an depicts it:

So he watered (their flocks) for them, then he turned back to shade, and said: “My Lord! Truly, I am in need of whatever good that You bestow on me!” Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, “Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us.” So when he came to him and related to him the story, he said, “Fear not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people.” One of the women said, “O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy.” He said, “Indeed, I wish to wed you one of these, my two daughters, on [the condition] that you serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be [as a favor] from you. And I do not wish to put you in difficulty. You will find me, if Allah wills, from among the righteous.”— Qur’an 28[Al-Qassas]:24–27

Key Takeaway

  • Whenever you’re desperately in need, cry to no one except Allah
  • Be good and kind to people whether you know them or not. For there’s surely a good reward for the good doer

Is there any reward for good other than good? — Qur’an 55[Ar-Rahman]:60

  • Only losers despair of Allah’s mercy. Therefore, never lose hope

Action Point

Let’s strive our utmost best to do at least one of the following:

  1. Find someone in need and show them an act of kindness
  2. Give charity by either saying a good word or a cheerful face

We ask Allah Who has blessed us with Islam to keep us steadfast upon it, increase us in Eeman and not take our soul except in a state of Ihsan. Ameen!
