Just like yesterday, Ramadan is 20 today. Now we are approaching the last ten days and the search for laylatul qadr begins. Laylatul Qadr is the Night of Decree, Majesty and Power. In it we find a night better than a thousand months of worship. There in Angels descend and Allah decrees the affairs of His creations.

The night of Majesty isn’t a come eat rice affair, nor is it a time to waste organizing lectures and programs as we see people doing today. The methodology of the sunnah in making the best out of this night is simple and that’s extraordinary worship. Its significance can be seen from the words of Allah’s Messenger peace be upon him:

Whosoever worshiped on laylatul-qadr, with faith and a sincere intention, all of his previous sins are forgiven.” — Bukhari and Muslim.

This is what to do…

Witnessing this powerful night is a blessing from Allah. You don’t have to search on google but seek for it in the odd nights of the last ten days. In the Islamic calendar system, the night comes before the day. So do not make the mistake of searching for laylatul qadr the Gregorian way. For instance, the search for the 21st night begins after solatul Maghrib today, not after solatul Isha’ tomorrow.

As to what follows, this is the easiest and most rewarding act to do on this night as recommended by Allah’s Apostle peace be upon him:

Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: I asked the Messenger of Allah: ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?’ He said: ‘Say: “Allahumma innaka `afuwwun tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee” — O Allah, You are pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.’ — [Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi].

Other beneficial activities you may indulge in are:

  1. Set out with a sincere intention seeking to please Allah. Earn His forgiveness, be manumitted from hell and admitted into paradise.
  2. Do I’tikhaf by being in the mosque worshipping in seclusion for the last ten days. This is from the sunnah of Allah’s Apostle PBUH.
  3. Observe Qiyamul Layl with long standing and recitals. If you can, weep for the sake of Allah and do sincere repentance.
  4. Recite the Qur’an as much as you can. Reflect over its meaning and implement its teachings.
  5. Evaluate yourself and make sincere supplication with firm conviction that Allah will accept it. Ask Allah for what you want for the matters are decided on this night of decree.
  6. Engage in numerous good deeds every night. One simple example is to give charity every night, hopefully you are lucky to earn a reward in excess of thousands.
  7. Try as much as you can to avoid indecent and immoral acts. One great caution is on the use of the tongue. You aspire through this period to get closer to Allah and not farther away from Him.

We ask Allah The Most High Lord to count me and you among those who will witness the majestic night. That we earn His forgiveness and above all gain admission into Paradise through His mercy. Ameen!

PS: In sha Allah this captures a 3 minutes read as the matter is of importance 😊 I hope you find it beneficial though. Kindly remember me in your dua’ as I’m desperately in need of Allah’s mercy.

Yaumus Sabt 20th Ramadan 1440H // Saturday 25th May 2019.
