Ramadan is here again, Alhamdulillah! This year in sha Allah, we revive our daily reminders as inspired by Dhikr Posters. It’s gonna be short and precise so we’d tag it “3-minutes read”. I hope we all benefit from it immensely as we ask Allah to grant us the strength to fulfill acceptable deeds in the blessed month.

Saying Bismillah before every deed fulfills three things:

  1. It invokes the blessing of Allah upon that deed
  2. It wards off evil (especially shaytan) from it
  3. It earns you reward as this is in line with the Sunnah of the Messenger PBUH and his predecessors.

Allah tells us in the noble Qur’an:

Allah, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Lord of the Supreme Throne! Sulaiman (Solomon) said: “We shall see whether you speak the truth or you are (one) of the liars. “Go you with this letter of mine, and deliver it to them, then draw back from them, and see what(answer) they return.” She said: “O chiefs! Verily! Here is delivered to me a noble letter. Verily! It is from Sulaiman (Solomon), and verily! It (reads): In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. — Qur’an 27[An-Naml]:26–30

Here we find in the sunnah where it’s recommended to say bismillah:

  1. Before Eating
  2. When drinking water
  3. Before commencing ablution
  4. Before intercourse with your spouse
  5. When entering and leaving the house
  6. When slaughtering an animal
  7. Before reciting the Qur’an
  8. While lowering the dead into the grave
  9. At the commencement of every good deed.

Uthman bin Abu al-As Al-Thaqafi reported that he made a complaint of pain to Allah’s Messenger (saw) that he felt in his body at the time he had become Muslim. Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (saw) said: Place your hand at the place where you feel pain in your body and say in the name of Allah three times and seven times I seek refuge with Allah and with His Power from the evil that I find and that I fear. — [Muslim]

So make this a point of interest from now on to always mention the name of Allah before you do anything. I’d see you tomorrow in sha Allah.

Your brother,
