My favorite hats

Hats are good. They protect your head from rain and snow and sun and ridicule on bad hair days. Baseball caps are one of the greats! Many mornings I throw on my fav Nike baseball cap when I leave the house to walk the dog, but no matter how messy my hair is in the morning, I will never, ever, wear a red baseball cap again. Not even on Canada Day!

Toques are especially good, even though I look terrible in them. They keep your head warm in winter, and they make funny topics of conversation with Americans. I don’t know how they survive winter without a word for these special winter head warmers. Recently, an American friend told me they were called beanies. How peculiar!

J ’adore the wonderful hats of Audrey Hepburn! As a little girl, I would daydream of the day that I would sit in a Paris café wearing a fabulous hat. So cosmopolitan were my childhood dreams. I made it to that Paris café, alas sans mon beau chapeau!

I also love hats that are just plain fun. Like the ones that allowed my mother in law and me to laugh out loud at each other. I miss you Eva!

But my favorite hats will always be the absolutely adorable ones my granddaughters wore when they were toddlers, especially the enchanting pink ones. 💖
