Remember the license plate game? It might save a life

Before screens distracted kids in cars, we would play the license plate game. Basically we’d compete to see how many license plates from different states we would see before we got to our destination.

Years later, I’m driving to a meeting and see a truck in front of me with no license plate. I thought, that’s curious. It looked like a HOOD milk delivery truck.

I cruised up to the side of it to see the DOT number. It had been whitewashed over and there’s no identification anywhere on the vehicle.

In front of me is another truck … no license plate, DOT is washed over and no ID.

I called 911, they passed me over to the highway department, (this was pre-GPS), and started looking for signs so I could tell them where I was. About 20 minutes later, a police car was along the side of the road. We exchanged thumbs-up.

I’ll never know what happened that day. But I’m glad I made the call.
