And… What’s inside the cube?

I will be honest to you: I thought that Molyneux was going to laugh at us and that inside the cube there would be a message like “Do you want to play again?” or a Rick Astley’s song. Nothing further from the truth.

Peter Molyneux is a game developer that causes an interesting reaction in people: you can only admire him or hate him. He has created some well known games as Fable series, and also a brand new kind of videogames: the “god games”, for example Populous.

Back in September 2012, Molyneux and his studio 22Cans released Curiosity - What’s Inside the Cube?, a one-part multiplayer game one-part social experiment. The game was simple: you just had to tap on smaller cubes in order to remove layers of the big cube and finally get to the center. Although every single player has collaborated to retire the cubelets, only the one that has tapped in the final cubelet has won. And today, someone has achieved it. And he was promised to be revealed the secret of the Universe (no, not 42).

“Yeah, cool story, bro. But what is it?” Well, Molyneux has given his winner the opportunity to be a God. Yes, a God, a digital God. This huge multiplayer game was just the prologue: Molyneux is working on an even bigger project, some kind of MMO and the winner of Curiosity is the chosen to be God: he will decide how the game develops, he will decide what is good and what is not, and he will even receive a small part of the game benefits (and I’m sure that it won’t be a small amount of money). Better than being RickRoll’d, isn’t it?

The winner is called Bryan Henderson, from Edinburgh. Here you can watch the video that he received, and to be up-to-date on Molyneux’s new project I recommend you to check out his Twitter account. Let’s see what he has in mind…

Update: The new Molyneux’s MMO is supposed to be named Godus, and a concept of the game has already succesfully raised his goal in Kickstarter.
