Empowering Students in Becoming Confident and Skilled Academic Writers

According to the National Assessment of Education Progress, the writing proficiencies of many students in the US have risen in the past year, though room for improvement still very much exists. When assessing US eighth and twelfth-graders, 27% scored “Proficient” or above in writing, rising by 2% from 2022’s assessment.

The assessment shows more than half of the students assessed still lack much-needed writing proficiency, and many parties, whether it be academics, teachers, or students themselves have searched for ways to improve students’ writing skills.

Jenni AI, an academic writing assistant founded by CEO David Park and CTO Henry Mao, aims to help students and educators better and further enhance their writing skills with its AI-powered features.

Writing Assistant

When it comes to improving our writing skills, there’s no one, easy way out. Improving any skill, let alone writing, requires hours and hours of practice, trials, and hard work, but they are not always a one-man job.

Though the act of writing itself is often very personal and private, some students participate in peer review workshops or ask for feedback from teachers so while they write on their own, they can still gain insight from people who either have better writing skills or have different perspectives that can help them refine their writing.

According to a study conducted by the International Society for Technology in Education in 2023, the continuous advancements in technology have also made students revert to technology-based writing tools, like word processors and grammar checkers. Students also use online writing platforms like ProWritingAid and Grammarly which come with various assistive writing features.

With LLMs on the rise, chatbots like ChatGPT have become a destination for students, as well. Since most, if not all, of these bots aren’t actually built to become a writing assistant, however, the risk of plagiarism is still pretty high. Platforms like Grammarly or ProWritingAid, though most incredibly helpful with their plagiarism detectors and writing style guides, were not designed specifically for academic writing, making their features possibly, slightly unfocused on the field of academia.

Jenni AI, on the other hand, was made with the intent of helping students and academics in improving their academic writing skills.

Academic Purposes

By focusing on the academic field, Jenni AI is equipped with various features that can help students generate ideas and outlines for essays, conduct research, and summarize journals and papers, as well as proofread and edit academic pieces of writing. The multilingual platform allows students to generate text in any desired language and switch between different languages at any time using its translate feature.

With Jenni AI’s APA, MLA, or Harvard in-text citations, AI autocompletes feature, and a digital research library embedded in the platform, students can write essays, literature reviews, research papers, personal statements, and speeches with more ease.

An AI chat assistant available inside the Jenni AI platform allows students to summarize research sources, helping them gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of their sources more timely and accurately. The assistant also offers feedback so students can identify areas of improvement.

Prioritizing academic integrity, Jenni AI ensures every student’s work is original and properly cited with no full-text generations from its AI. The platform’s built-in plagiarism checker also removes any risk of accidental plagiarism.

Writer’s Block No More

Aware that writer’s block is a phenomenon often being met not only by renowned authors but also by academics, Jenni AI’s intuitive interface is equipped with AI-powered suggestions that can come up with prompts and topics.

Every student’s piece of writing will without a doubt be originally their own, but even the best writers still need a little nudge from other people (real or digital) every once in a while, and this is what Jenni’s writing suggestions feature is for.

Unlike platforms like ProWritingAid and Grammarly, whose various features are only available through a subscription plan, Jenni AI also offers a free plan, that while not as fully furnished as its unlimited plan, still seems worth a try.

With hopes of empowering students to improve their academic writing skills with confidence, Jenni AI is designed not to replace writers but to support them the best way it can.
