A brief overview on the origins and vision of DigitYser for becoming the co-creation paradise for IoT, VR and big data lovers
A few years ago, Philippe Van Impe was developing a project related to data science. While searching for peers to discuss the topic, he realised that there wasn’t a community in Belgium focused on the value of data. Being aware of the exponential increase on data generation and the need to have better analytics, he knew that there was a big need to share good practices on the topic and, on February 2014, Philippe and 4 other enthusiasts created the Data Science Community meetup group, which quickly started growing.
Three years and 122 meetups later, the legacy of the Data Science Community is evident. It triggered the creation of the European Data Innovation Hub, which -besides keeping on organising the meetups- has also organised annual Data Summits, trainings, specialised conferences, data for good hackathons and a data science bootcamp. The increasing enthusiasm and support of the data science community are a clear sign on the need to keep on developing this knowledge platform, and that is why we are very excited to take all these efforts to a higher level introducing DigitYser to you.
Close your eyes, and imagine entering into a beautiful, bright space of 2,000 square meters reuniting the communities of IoT, VR and Big Data & AI, where everyone is welcome. An open area where -no matter who you are- you can come in, sit down, work a bit, and connect with others while listening to interesting conferences… and even attend a nice barbecue onthe terrace! An accessible and central location, easily reachable by public transport.
DigitYser’s aim is to become the Brussels’ technical hub where communities gather to learn, co-create and implement the digital solutions of the future. It is a bottom-up initiative where people of all backgrounds cooperate and support each other. It is a meeting place for entrepreneurs to get in touch with local talent and startups, and where seasoned professionals can steer the efforts and accelerate the results of different technical ventures.
Part of this approach is creating a digital flagship where your opinion matters. Your help is needed! Hence, we extend an open invitation to everyone to join the co-creation workshops to define together the ideal hub. Like Philippe is showing below, our aim is to include all the valuable ideas and initiatives of the different communities.
We would love you to join us and share what you would like DigitYser to become. First, by joining Philippe on June 1st at the Digital Festival, where he will share more details on the project. Additionally, you can have a look at our webpage, and contact us via Facebook or Twitter to share your thoughts and questions.
And, let’s remain in touch and keep on building DigitYser together!
