The Number One Twitter tactic that NEVER works

It kills me to think that people are still lowering themselves to using “tactics” to get more followers on Twitter. Any social media “expert” will tell you that the amount of followers, on any platform, is useless. This late in the game, it is about listening, and interacting, and you shouldn’t worry about getting someone to follow you. What I still notice, are “Social Media Guru’s” using this cheesy, awful tactic, that NEVER works. It is the “Follow, UnFollow, Follow again until they follow back” Tactic. Why do people do this? Because they don’t think they will get caught.

I caught someone, called them out, and got blocked.

I don’t have many Twitter followers, and for good reason. I never prompt anyone to follow me for the hell of it. If they are scouring twitter, or this blog, and want to get more insight from me, and think I bring them value, they can follow when they want. As stated before, with Twitters search feature, there is no need for followers if you are solely on there to interact and bring value.

So with my small amount of followers, I am able to Thank everyone who decides to hit the follow button. My rule is if I check out their page, click the “Tweets & Replies” tab, and see that they NEVER interact with anyone but only say “Check out my Blog”, I will never follow them back. Zero value there. So a self proclaimed “expert” who will remain nameless, decided to use the tactic. I thanked him each time, letting him know that I noticed what he was doing. Look below:

The 3rd time is the charm

Look at the dates. It was 10 days when he did the first follow-unfollow-follow. Then he waited a few more weeks. I called him out on the third time and here is the result:

Oh well. I lost a follower and am blocked by someone that brought zero value. Mainly because I didn’t fall for the tactic. This has happened on many occasions, when I get followed by “social media experts” with a TON of followers. I always think to myself, “How do they have such a huge following when they bring little to no value?”, well today we cracked the code.

Stressing the point of bringing value instead of hawking your blog or product/service is a no-brainer. How would you feel if The Rock tweeted daily to go see his movie, or if Taylor Swift only tweeted “buy my album”. You would be turned off and there wouldn’t be any reason to follow them. Look at yourself as a brand or a personality that people actually want to hear from. Most of these experts bring zero insight, share any look into their own lives, no photos or experience. It is just automated quotes, and “check out my e-book” or “6 ways to crush it on twitter”. In today’s world of on-demand and reading content when YOU want to, that won’t work anymore. The consumer is smarter, so don’t dumb it down.

If you see ANYONE using this tactic. Call them out. Shoot them a tweet or DM and ask them why they are doing it. I would love to get insight on this.
