Today, May 13, 2022, state Representative Mary Duffy Messier endorsed James Diossa for General Treasurer. A lifelong Pawtucket resident, Representative Mary Messier — First Vice Chair of both the House Committees on Labor and State Government and Elections — has served in the General Assembly for the last 13 years.

“I am humbled to have Representative Messier’s support,” said Diossa. “Throughout her life, Representative Messier has exhibited an enduring sense of duty to her community, both in and out of elected office.” Diossa continued, “that sense of duty, and her abiding commitment to helping our teachers, our children, and those in need epitomizes what it means to be a public servant.” “I look forward to working with Representative Messier and her colleagues in government as your next General Treasurer.” Representative Messier issued the following statement of support:

As Vice Chair of the House Labor Committee and as a retired teacher myself, I know first-hand how important pensions are to hardworking Rhode Islanders. In the Treasurer’s Office, we need a leader we can trust to manage the pension system. Based on his time as Mayor of Central Falls, I know James Diossa is that leader. As Mayor, James made responsible decisions that helped protect pensioners’ futures in the wake of a municipal bankruptcy. He is forward-thinking, transparent, and has the skill set our state government needs in the Treasurer’s Office. I’m confident he will serve us well.

Before her election to the House of Representatives, Representative Messier was a long-time elementary school teacher in Cumberland.
