#365DaysOfWriting Day 58: Superstitions
Today, as we were returning home from dinner, a cat crossed our path. At once, my mother instructed my father to stop the car and wait, and was extremely distressed when he paid no heed to her pleas. My mom is superstitious to some extent — she does believe that if a cat crosses your way, you are bound to be met with bad luck. I don’t believe it at all. If that was the case, cat-owners would be very unhappy people! Neither do I believe that cutting your nails (or hair for that matter) on a Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday is inauspicious.
However, while I may not be a believer of these particular superstitions, it would be wrong to assume that I am not at all a superstitious person.
During exams, I used to believe in a “lucky” eraser and thought I would fare badly if I did not have that in my pencil-box! There are certain people in my life with whom I share all the significant events of my life — a part of me believes that not telling them will result in things not working out for me. Similarly, there are some people with whom I don’t like sharing a lot of good news — I fear that unki buri nazar lag jaayegi! There is no logical base to such beliefs, but I do have them.
What are the superstitions that you practice?
