#10xEverything — What I Learned From Meeting The Most Productive Businessman On The Planet
Grant Cardone grew up with a mindset of contraction. After his father passed away when Grant was 10 years old, his mother struggled to keep up the families finances and would tell Grant and his siblings things like, “Turn those lights off,” “Don’t run the water too long.”
These statements Grant reflects on now and knows how important it is to think bigger and rather than think in terms of how to “save” in times of contraction, people who want to be successful should think in terms of how to expand in times contraction.
At the end of June, while in Los Angeles, I had the opportunity to meet the leading entrepreneur in our country today. Grant walked in holding a Starbucks coffee in one hand, and, Elaina, his wife’s hand in the other. From before he ever stepped on stage, he was sharing smiles with everyone who greeted him, shaking their hands, and giving wisdom.
He took the stage shortly after, and began to speak about the 10x rule, the rule and principle he applied to his life which made him successful. The rule is this: average people put in (x) amount of hours towards their business, so to be successful you are required to put in 10x what the average is.
After he was done speaking, he went to the back to gather his belongings before leaving. A few weeks prior, I tweeted Grant asking him for the opportunity to tell him how much he has impacted my life, and so this was my chance to walk back there, look him in the eye and shake his hand and simply tell him thank you.
In 2011, when I was 15, I lost my father, and like Grant, grew up in a contraction mindset. My family was living in complete poverty, at times only having cans of peaches and pears for breakfast and dinner. Seeing Grant succeed despite everything that happened in his life, makes me too know and understand that I am unlimited and not bound by my past. Since the loss of my father, I’ve published my first book, spoken at conferences all across the country, and am an international life coach.
What I’ve learned from Grant is this:
Be humble.
Work hard.
Repeat.
Success is your birthright, capture it.
