Red Mountain — Dec. 22/23, 2018
Wow, I forgot how amazing the grooming crew is up here at Red. Smooth, predictable runs with plenty of beautiful corduroy sure make for some fast, fun skiing!! So great.
Let’s back up to our arrival yesterday. We are staying at the brand new No Where Special Hostel located at the base of the mountain. Yep, you heard me right, on the mountain. A two minute walk, at best.
We were greeted by a lovely gal from Australia named Klara who showed us around the building’s amenities. These include a spacious lobby area with lots of hangout seating, a huge fully equipped kitchen area for cooking, refrigerated coolers for food storage, a large eating area, outdoor patio complete with barbeques, and plenty of storage including a locked room for your ski gear.
The room we rented was a four person dorm. Very comfortable and inexpensive. Clean washroom area and shower, shared with one other four person dorm. Out our window, a view of the Red chairlift. Ahhhh.
After getting settled into our abode, further exploring led us to another new build: the Josie Hotel. Wow, what a spectacular addition to the mountain. A lobby area you want to live in, and a restaurant and bar with great food and drink.
We were further blessed to get a tour by Robin of a couple of the hotel suites, and boy were they sweet! Almost made me consider swapping out of the hostel! Very nice architecture and finishing. Super accommodations, and again, right on the base of the mountain. Only a 30 second walk from there to the lifts.
Red Mountain has long been a favourite spot of mine to ski. With six lifts servicing five spectacular mountains, there is plenty of terrain and variety for everyone. The sweet news? We joined in on the crowd funding last year, and we are “owners”. Nice.
End of the day, hanging out with Marilyn at the Klister Klub. She’s hot ;) and so is the cabin.
