Having a dog is fun on many levels, but having a trained dog is amazing on every level that there is. When it comes to dog training, not the age, size or breed matters. There is a wrong perception that dog training is difficult, though it requires patience and commitment, it not a complicated task at all.

People in Ireland just love having these bundles of joy in their homes, and what’s not to love about dogs, they are caring, trustworthy and loving. There are four ways in which a dog can learn:

Here is a Free Dog Training E-Book as a Bonus to our Readers.

· INSTRUMENTAL CONDITIONING

In this form of learning, the dog’s behavior is modified. Normally, positive reinforcement is applied to strengthen the behavior of a dog. It involves satisfying the physical or psychological needs of a dog, such as giving him a treat for obeying the order to playing a fun game with him.

· CLASSICAL CONDITIONING

This form of learning is used to help a dog in countering or overcoming the fear of any situation or people.

· NON-ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING

It is the form of learning in which a dog‘s reaction/response is modified for things that occur at regular intervals. An example can be given of a dog barking every time the doorbell rings.

· OBSERVATIONAL LEARNING

This form of learning does not need any kind of reinforcement, the dog learns through observing others.

MOST EFFECTIVE DOG TRAINING METHODS

There are many Dog Training Methods but the most effective ones will be listed bellow.

- OBEDIENCE TRAINING FOR DOGS

The first step towards dog training is ensuring that your dog obeys your command. It is obvious that the dog won’t learn anything until or unless he obeys your commands. Here are 5 obedience commands that you must teach your dog:

(1) Sit

It is one of the easiest commands to teach. As a result of learning this command, your dog will have more self-control. Here is how you can teach your dog the sit command.

Step 1: Get a treat and take it close to your puppy/dog’s nose

STEP 2: Move the treat to upper level and your dog’s head will follow it

STEP 3: your dog’s bottom will lower and when he gets into a sitting position, praise him after giving a treat.

STEP 4: Say the word “Sit” every time you do it.

(2) COME

STEP 1: Go closer to your dog and slightly pull the leash

STEP 2: Show him the treat and say the word “come”.

STEP 3: Your dog will follow you. Give him a treat after he takes a few steps towards you.

(3) STAY

STEP 1: Let your dog sit next to you and wave your flat palm towards his nose and say the word “Stay

STEP 2: Take few steps backward after few seconds.

STEP3: Reward your dog with a treat for not disobeying your order

STEP 4: Repeat this process again and again.

(4) DOWN

STEP 1: Hold a treat in your hand and take your hand closer to your dog’s nose

STEP 2: He will notice the scent; now start moving your hand towards the ground. His head will follow the treat to the floor, and once his body is stretched out, say the word “Down”.

STEP 3: Give him treat for being a good dog and repeat this process again and again.

(5) WALK/LET’S GO

STEP 1: Say the words “let’s go” or “walk” after putting a leash on him.

STEP 2: put the treat in your left hand or pocket and encourage him to follow you.

STEP 3: Once he starts following you, say the words “good boy” and give him a treat.

These were some of the simplest obedience tricks. Teaching your dogs these tricks ensures that your dog has no complications in agility and intelligence training.

AGILITY TRAINING FOR DOGS

Agility training helps in building a common language between you and your dog. So what agility training does is that it teaches your dog to use his body language in effectively communicating.

All you need is some materials to start the agility training course, you can find them in a hardware store.

- WEAVE POLES

You can stick 5–10 PVC poles or even ski poles in the yard. You need to make sure that there is enough distance between them so that the dog can easily move around each pole.

- STANDARD JUMPS

You can use various materials to set the standard jumps. You can stack cinder blocks or use strips of plywood.

- TIRE JUMP

You can use an old car or bike tire and hang it from a tree branch. The opening should be large enough so that your dog can easily pass through it.

- TUNNEL

You can use a plastic collapsible tunnel that you can find from any children’s toy shop. The tunnel would be perfect for your dog to crawl into.

- PAUSE TABLE

You can use any old table that is stable enough. You can use it as an agility pause table.

Your dog needs to already have obedience training (sit, walk, jump and stay). It won’t be difficult to teach him how to crawl, weave through poles, jump through tires and over hurdles. You have to take your time, and be patient with the training. Your dog will gradually learn.

INTELLIGENCE TRAINING FOR DOGS

Dog intelligence training allows the dog to think, learn and solve problems. According to study, dogs display many behavioral traits that are normally associated with intelligence. Many dog breeds have advanced memory skills and they can remember and retrieve objects over a mere command.

Dog Training Methods Comparison

Intelligence training for dogs is not difficult, but it requires patience. There is an applicable method that is Learning Words. This training involves the process in which dogs are taught certain words and things associated with those words. The best way to make sure that this training goes perfectly.

In order to make sure that the intelligence training goes smoothly, you have to follow the steps mentioned below and follow expert advice from on Ireland’s Dog Training Website.

STEP 1: MAKE THE INTELLIGENCE TRAINING FUN

You have to make the whole learning part fun, and the best way to do this is by doing what he likes. You can draw food, treats, toys or anything that your dog likes. You have to make it certain that you do not force anything on your dog or forcefully ask him to anything. If the training is fun, your dog will learn in a short period of time.

STEP 2: INTRODUCE VARIOUS CHALLENGES

For this step to be effective, first you have to teach your dog obedience skills. You can introduce various challenges to your dog, and make sure that you start with little easy challenges.

STEP 3: REMAIN CONSISTENT

If you want the intelligence training of your dog to be successful, consistency is the key to achieving that. Remain patient and try same things over and over again. Eventually, your dog will come around.

STEP 4: ALWAYS LOOK OUT FOR PATTERNS

Your dog can show some lazy patterns while training. You have to make it certain that you break those patterns, and the best way of doing that is bringing something new to the table frequently.

STEP 5: ALWAYS END ON A POSITIVE NOTE

You have to ensure that your dog is happy at the end of each training session. Give him a treat or something that makes him happy.

BE KIND TO YOUR DOG AND LOVE HIM NO MATTER HOW LONG HE TAKES TO LEARN
