There are plenty of “POC” for whom “poorness” or historical issues are not the reasons for not attending SXSW. Whenever Diversity becomes a goal or a program, it has to work toward a forced solution. Should the organizers of SXSW go out an find POC and *force* them to attend SXSW ? That would solve your perceived problem.

Maybe the real issue is that your perception does not imply or prove the totally unsubstantiated, utterly over-reaching, and agenda-driven theory you are putting forth. Many of the organizers of Austin-based SXSW are some of the most open-minded, liberal people on the planet and you are trying to create something of nothing.

I also agree with other posters that:

(1) you must be thinking of something else if you think a group that is 13% of the population should appear as 50% of a non-systematically-selected population (I say 13% because I think you must be really talking about African-Americans/blacks. There were several visualizations I had there of Asians, Hispanics and lots of other “POC” hugely outnumbering white people.)

(2) You are cherry-picking, as might, again, be seen as agenda-driven. Why not look at many other events and demand why ANY racial/ethnic group is under-represented ? The uncomfortable truth is that organizers of events and organizations simply pick a theme and positioning and let whomever will come to the event do so. So much post-analysis and social engineering, with no evidence of actual causation, is just stupid.

Get a life Mr. Lindsay-Prince.
