Sam Bankman-Fried denies he tried to sway witness
The former CEO of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, has been met with allegations that he attempted to sway a potential witness in a court case against him. The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, has recently filed a court document on January 27th claiming that Bankman-Fried made an attempt to influence the FTX US General Counsel, believed to be Ryne Miller, through the encrypted messaging app Signal on January 15th.
According to Williams, Miller could potentially have incriminating information against Bankman-Fried as he was present during the collapse of FTX and participated in online company groups where Bankman-Fried is accused of instructing employees to move funds. In light of these allegations, Williams has requested the court to impose restrictions on Bankman-Fried’s communication with former employees of FTX and Alameda Research and to prevent him from using encrypted and self-deleting apps such as Signal.
However, Bankman-Fried’s legal team has vehemently denied these allegations and stated that the message sent to Miller was merely an offer to assist in FTX’s ongoing bankruptcy case, not an attempt to influence Miller’s testimony in any way.
