So AMP is pretty easy to work with.

This is one of the most compelling arguments in favor of AMP that I’ve heard.
I’m an RSS fan. One nice feature of that model is that the authors/publishers have a metric to (roughly) track the number of subscribers. Does AMP provide similar faculties? For example, could a publisher leverage the Beacon API (navigator, worker)?
It seems like the biggest downside to “AMP as RSS++” is the infrastructure required to make it work. Individual clients can occasionally request an RSS feed and monitor the response for changes. With an AMP model it seems like you’d need a web crawler to build up a list of published articles/posts/etc. Perhaps AMP and RSS could be used together for the best of both worlds?
