Why You Should Write Every Thought Down

Ever come up with a brilliant idea only to forget it shortly after? We’ve all had the experience before. Why? Because we’re human and we forget things in our busy lives.

Sometimes the greatest thoughts we have never do see action.

This is one of our greatest weaknesses and could prevent us from creating something special.

But how can we eliminate the risk of losing a great idea or thought?

By writing it down.

Transferring your thoughts onto paper is one of the biggest favors you could do for yourself.

But what exactly should we write down?

Everything.

So grab a notebook, journal, or piece of paper and pick up your favorite writing utensil. It’s time to take back your mind…

  1. Free Write

Start right now by writing down what’s on your mind. Try to dig deep and write what you can remember. This at first might seem like a typical journal entry, but don’t be discouraged. This exercise is a simple way to calm your mind and allow yourself to think straight. From personal experience, this mind draining activity is welcoming after a long day of work.

2. Write Down Ideas or Notes

This is your chance to save the best of your mind’s creations. Write down any cool ideas or thoughts you have at this moment. And be sure to keep this list close at hand when you come up with even greater ideas. This step could be the difference in building greatness or standing still.

3. Write Down Your Past and Present

Now we’ll try another type of examination. Write down where you were. The places you’ve been, the schools you’ve attended, or any memorable adventures you can remember. Going down memory lane will not only make you more aware of who you once were but how different you either are or aren’t now.

Next, write down where you are now. Where you’re living, working/studying, and what you’re doing for a living. Feel free to write down any activities you enjoy as well. Now you’ve given yourself an opportunity to bring your mind back up to speed on who you are and what you stand for. Use this space as a reminder to yourself if you become lost in this busy world.

4. Write Down Your Dream Future

Write down your dream future. Where you want to live, work, and accomplish. Start with today, then tomorrow, next month, then next year, and even the next couple of decades. Consider this a “bucket list” of things you want to do.

Why Set Goals?

When you take the time to transfer your thoughts from clouds in your head to scribbles on paper, you’re making it a priority to listen to yourself and analyze what you’re thinking.

This can help deviate stress and establish what we really want in our lives.

When we set personal goals for ourselves, we’re cutting and measuring a path we want to walk down in the future. Having direction in our lives provides the motivation needed to conquer the trials of everyday life.

Take deep breaths. You’ve finished.

In this article, we’ve stressed the importance of writing our thoughts and ideas down while looking at some of the ways we can examine our minds and create direction for our future.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed examining your mind and realizing the importance of goals in our lives. Believe it or not, we’ve just completed a form of meditation, something I recommend everyone tries now and again.

And remember, you never know when a great idea might come to you.
