KH Ram asks: Sir, I want to know if it is okay to sit under a fan or expose myself in an air-conditioned room immediately after the application of Minoxidil topical lotion. Is it safe to do so? Please explain.

Using Minoxidil properly can be a source of doubt and concern for many individuals experiencing hair loss. It is crucial to cross-check with a dermatologist and follow the proper protocol to ensure the best results. In this educational video, Dr John Watts addresses this issue and provides clarity.

While responding to the query of KH Ram, Dr John Watts said that it does not matter if after applying Minoxidil he wants to sit under a ceiling fan or in an air-conditioned room as long as he maintains scalp hygiene properly and keeps it dry before application of the topical lotion. “If these two conditions are met, one can sit under a fan or ac. It won’t make any difference,” said Dr John Watts.

The key factors for a successful application are maintaining scalp hygiene and ensuring the scalp is dry before applying the topical lotion.

However, when using Minoxidil for the second time in a day, it is important to check for any flaky or white precipitates on the scalp. If the scalp is dusty or dirty, it is advisable to refrain from using Minoxidil. Dr John Watts advises that the scalp should be clean, and if it is dusty or oily, rinsing it with a mild shampoo before applying Minoxidil is recommended. Only a gentle massage with fingertips is necessary during application.

For individuals prescribed Minoxidil twice a day, the guideline is to apply 1ml of Minoxidil in the morning and 1ml in the evening. By following these guidelines and maintaining proper scalp hygiene, individuals can optimize the effectiveness of Minoxidil treatment.

Conclusion: When using Minoxidil, it is crucial to ensure that the scalp is clean and dry. Following the advice of a dermatologist and adhering to proper application techniques will contribute to the success of the treatment. Minoxidil users must always remember to maintain scalp hygiene, apply the appropriate amount of Minoxidil, and seek professional guidance for the best results.
