Why I’m Returning to Latin America

On Sunday, I depart for Costa Rica — kicking off a four-country trip across Central and South America to advance issues related to economic empowerment and educational opportunities for women and girls.

Over the next few days, I’ll visit with teachers, students, government leaders and civil society partners in Costa Rica, Peru, Argentina and Panama to discuss how we’re leveling the playing field in our region to ensure that our daughters have the same opportunities in life that our sons are given; to make sure girls and young women all around the world have the chance to go to school, get the education and economic opportunities they deserve, so they become whoever they aspire to be.

Every time I’ve visited countries in Latin America, I’ve been moved by the women and girls I’ve met, by their determination to learn and to grow; to build a better life for themselves and their families. So this time, I’d like to share with you stories and behind-the-scenes photos from the road — in English and en Español — about the inspiring work happening throughout Costa Rica, Peru, Argentina and Panama to empower women and girls, so they can realize their full potential.

It’s going to be a great trip, and I hope you’ll follow along.
