Introduction
Blockchain-based gaming has been on my mind for years now. The ability to be consumed as usual by a great game but with the idea of a secondary market for game item ownership and asset remarketing if needed. That seems like the pinnacle of gaming to me (excluding all of the fantastic things on the horizon for Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality games).
With all of that said, most of the games that I have played in the Blockchain Gaming or Web3 Gamining space over the last few years have been pretty much just “clicker” games or “idler” games. While these games have gained tons of interest as proof of concepts, they often lack depth and the ability to retain players long-term. I myself actively work with one such game called BlockchainRPG. Our original intent was to create an RPG-style game on the WAX blockchain where players could grind and enjoy the old-school RPG game feel without the ability to “pay to win”. The BRPG team never sold any items that could enhance gameplay for users. The only NFT items ever sold were the character NFTs themselves. Everything else in the market was crafted or found by players. This concept is exciting to explore…
