Nonverbal Communication Analysis №3693: Grace VanderWaal Wins America’s Got Talent Season 11 — Body Language and Emotional Intelligence (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Congratulations to the amazing Grace VanderWaal on winning season 11 of America’s Got Talent with yet another original song, “Clay”. There’s certainly no shortage of body language displayed in the video above — but one in particular is highlighted here.

Although it’s rarely noted, a very common nonverbal behavior is exemplified during the 0:30 mark (and screen-captured [and a further close-up] below). It shows Ms. VanderWaal less than a second after her name is announced.

Most find it fascinating to learn that during the large majority of occasions the facial expression seen during initial seconds of sincere “Shock-Joy-Happy Tears” is indistinguishable from that of sincere “Shock-Grief-Sad Tears”.
