Every time I watched the shown I couldn’t help but think, “this just isn’t good.” I like the content, and Larry Wilmore, in his former role. But the show itself didn’t grab me. It lacked the cleverness of Colbert, and the charisma of that show’s host. It seemed hokey and awkward at times, and almost made me think that maybe the problem was in the editing room. But how much room for editing is there on a show of the type? I’m guessing not much due to lack of retakes, and that most of the failure has to do with a host that just isn’t as smooth at extemporaneous commentary as required for the shoes he’s been asked to fill.
