Get Rid of Unsightly Spider Veins
Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey LaGrasso reviews many cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures to give you smooth and sexy legs. Sclerotherapy is a cosmetic procedure used to treat both varicose veins and spider veins. The treatment is typically performed for the non-surgical removal of veins in your legs and sometimes the hands, feet or face.
Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a salt solution into the vein, which causes it to swell, stick together and clot. This causes the vessel to turn into scar tissue eventually resulting in the vein no longer being visible on the surface of your skin.
Sclerotherapy is done as an out-patient basis in the doctor’s office and only takes a few minutes to a half hour to complete. You may experience mild discomfort at the injection site, but this is only temporary.
Your doctor will recommend you wear a compression stocking for a few days after your treatment. While you can resume walking immediately treatment, you should avoid vigorous exercise for a few days.
You should see results in a few weeks for smaller veins, although it may take up to four months to see results in larger veins. Additional treatment sessions can be scheduled at a later date, if necessary.
You may want to check with your medical insurance and ask if they cover any part of this treatment. If the enlarged veins are causing chronic pain and/or swelling, the sclerotherapy treatments might be covered by your insurance plan.
