Sex, Etc.

Sex, Etc. were on NPR this morning. I appreciate their honest and realistic approach to sexuality (which is learned behavior with biological components).
In addition to challenging the shame and silence of sex, Sex, Etc. also makes sex ed inclusive. No more heterocentrism and heteronormativity. Opposite-sex sexual behavior has never (NEVER EVER — in the history of humans) been the only form of sexuality and sexual behavior.
That’s why Sex, Etc is addressing LGBTQ sexuality, not as a “subtopic” but as among many examples of sexuality.
Counter to most assumptions: Pregnancy is quite common among young LGBTQ for reasons including fear and shame of being LGBTQ; and never being taught sexual expression, sexual health, and sexual safety. People often connect LGBTQ with STIs but not with pregnancy. This all connects and teaches us more about sexuality and sexual education.
Other forms of honesty and reality include reducing silence and shame across sexualities and across gender identities. No more pretending sexuality is a mystical thing that shockingly occurs. No more pretending sexuality is only a man-thing and only for the pleasure of men. No more pretending sexuality is only about egg-sperm Reproductive Zumba.
Sex, Etc. is addressing sexuality and sex for youth and teenagers. I hope adults also receive such information. Unsurprisingly, most adults across societies and across cultures are as silenced and clueless as youth and teenagers.
Thanks, Sex, Etc.
