The American Cancer Society is an international leader in the fight against cancer. It works toward a world free of cancer by supporting research, increasing awareness, and providing resources to families impacted by cancer.

Each year, the American Cancer Society publishes the Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer. The newest report, published March 31, 2017, has some very good news. The cancer death rate continued to decline in 2016. Men, women, and children are all experiencing better outcomes, as are major ethnic groups.

Unfortunately, patients with some specific types of cancer are experiencing worse outcomes. Generally speaking, death rates are rising for women with liver and endometrial cancers and for men with liver, pancreas, and brain cancers.
