Heya folks, Shaun here, and I’m back with my latest review! In this one, I’m covering an indie game called Deliver Us Mars by KeokeN Interactive and Frontier Foundry. I got the game free through the Epic Games Store, so I didn’t receive a copy from the developer or publisher this time.
Deliver Us Mars is a sci-fi themed first person adventure game that follows an astronaut named Kathy, whose father was part of a secret mission to steal 3 ark ships that were supposed to be used to save humanity from a deteriorating earth. During the attempt, Kathy is left behind by her father, and she has never fully recovered from the incident, so when the opportunity to go on a mission to Mars to recover the ark ships, she jumps on board without hesitation in order to finally find her father.
The game itself takes place 10 years after the events of Deliver Us The Moon, and Earth has really begun to wither away in that time. Your journey starts on Earth, but after a long series of events you’ll find yourself on Mars with your crew members as you try to figure out what happened to the members of Outward, and to find Kathy’s father.
The game also has puzzles that you’ll need to solve utilizing Streame technology, where you need to connect different nodes to open doors or activate machinery, like an elevator. There are also climbing sections that are new to this game where you need to utilize rock climbing axes to get to out of reach areas. Admittedly, I wasn’t overly fond of the climbing sections, and found them to be more of a pain than anything. There are times when the axes don’t want to latch onto a rock and you fall to your death. It was pretty frustrating admittedly but the story kept me playing.
I’ll also say that the game is honestly quite beautiful, and its one of the few games that really make you feel like you’re an astronaut. Especially the section near the beginning of the game where you perform an actual shuttle launch into space. I thought that was really cool.
Overall, Deliver Us Mars is a really well made game, and I wound up loving every second of it, well, except for the climbing sections, those were kind of frustrating but the rest of the game is excellent. If you’re in the market for a new sci-fi game, then I definitely recommend Deliver Us Mars, it’s a great sequel, and a thrilling ride from start to finish. Also, while it’s not mandatory to play the first game, I definitely recommend playing the first game before this one to understand some of the context and characters. I give Deliver Us Mars an 8 out of 10.
