Konstant Movement
I woke up unusually early this morning so I decided to waste my time scrolling through Facebook before dragging myself out of heaven, aka my bed. Majority of the time my timeline is filled up with stories and pictures that just overall put a damper on my life( kidding..kinda) For example, seeing friends getting married and having kids (congrats, proud and happy for you in all seriousness!) But at the same time, i’m sitting over here as a 22 year old still trying to make sure my socks match-which if you haven’t noticed, is something i’ve given up on. As I was scrolling through my newsfeed I saw a good buddy of mine Stephen Sutherland A.K.A. Konstant Movement post a link to his new video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSQQXd8-d6o PS, this video is in like 2160 p which is literally insane). As I proceeded to click the link, I noticed that he was wearing the State of Mind T-shirt from the infamous Above N Beyond Clothing Co. brand. You’re thinking okay cool, some rapper through my shirt on in a video-CONGRATS! BUT, this isn’t just “some” rapper, this is a homie. This is somebody I went to high school with, this is somebody that i’ve learned to look up to and respect as a human being within the last year of my life. This is somebody who i’ve watched build himself up from ground zero and put in countless hours of work to be where he’s at. Me of all people, I know what hard work is; I know what it’s like to chase a dream. I know what it’s like to put your heart and soul into something that ISN’T related to school, to have people doubt you, and ultimately start making sacrifices in your daily life to make time to do what you love. Not a lot of people can say that.
What really ignited this post was the simple fact that he never told me he was going to wear it, he just did it. He just repped the fuck out of my company because it’s what HE wanted to do. Not because I told him to, not because it makes him look any sexier, not because he’s getting paid, simply because he wanted to. To most people, that’s a very generous act by him and within 10 minutes it’ll probably be forgotten about and they will go on with their systematic day. But to me, it’s more than just a very generous act. It’s something I have a hard time explaining to people, because unless you’ve ever really devoted your life to something (whether it’s music, a company, photography, etc.) and had actual supporters-you know how much supporters actually mean. Supporters are everything, you can’t go anywhere if you don’t have people supporting what you do. Stephen wearing that shirt really says more about him as a person than anything else. Being an actual SUPPORTER and not only pushing his dream, but mine as well, means more than most people will ever know.
Bottom line is; It’s super rad seeing people from high school, friends, colleague’s working hard for something that they want. Stephen showed us a huge example of going above and beyond (so cheesy) as a human being, which was one of the sole purposes of me starting Above N’ Beyond Clothing Co., and it’s SO cool seeing people adopt this behavior and bring it to their OWN lifestyle. It’s awesome seeing others joining this MOVEMENT of positivity through good vibes, doing unexpected things for people that’ll make their day, and ultimately come together as ONE and conquer what society wants us to conform to-which in my eyes is negativity. Separate yourself.
