There’s a saying that having identified something as beautiful depends on having identified something else as ugly.

But is that always true?

Yesterday I saw the most magnificent sky. The clouds, the colors in the sky. The way the gray of the morning was leaving and making space for the sunshine of the afternoon. The way the entire sky seems to become endless and inviting.

It was beautiful just because it was beautiful. Not because the morning sky had been ugly, which it hadn’t. But just because beauty can exist in its own right.

If you look with open eyes and an open heart, you can see the beauty in all things.
