When in SoFlo…Have No Fear, Drink Beer
My perpetual quest is to find the best beer-experiences at bars, restaurants, breweries, and home-brew sources wherever I live. When we moved to South Florida three years ago, I felt as if I would have to put this quest on hold. Thankfully, SoFlo proved me wrong as places like Funky Buddha Brewery came into being, just as Wynwood began to flourish. It was the perfect storm. A beautiful storm of beer drinking opportunities.
Below is a list of my top findings based solely on my own experiences. If you find anything below to be incorrect — my bad. Let me know and I’ll update this post!
Bars & Restaurants
Veterans unite! To Victory! is a new veterans owned bar with a great personable selection of beers. If you need to step away from the hipness of South Florida and trade up to the commraderie found only in the military — roll on by. Your taste buds and warrior spirit will thank you!

Do you crave a normal, almost American mountain lodge dining atmosphere? Big Bear Brewing Company is the most American (and delicious) brewpub in South Florida!

Breweries
The best brewery in SoFlo? By far. Hands down. Funky Buddha is the place to go. Having opened up a recent kitchen, be sure to like their Facebook page to stay current on the endless list of great events. What makes Funky Buddha so great? Atmosphere…family friendly atmosphere…to start. But the real reason — Funky Buddha is a wonderful rarity in the creation of their flavorful beers.

Having an artsy afternoon in Wynwood? You can’t miss the namesake brewery, but save room for J. Wakefield Brewery. Wynwood Brewery’s local ties and connection is an inspiring and rewarding taste. However, the nerdgasm of J. Wakefield (not to forget wonderful artisanal beer) is a great way to finish off your Wynwood experience.

If you work at USSOUTHCOM, you should know the MIA Brewery. With over 50 beers on tap (30 of them are their own) you will want to start with a flight or two and plan on coming back to enjoy your favorites!

Located right across from Riverside Market, Craft Beer Cartel is a home brewers diamond in the rough of South Florida. With delicious donuts available on weekends, home brewed beer on tap, events with some of craft beer’s greatest brewers, and everything you need for brew day — Craft Beer Cartel is a must for any home brew enthusiast.

I cannot mention donuts without throwing a must-eat recommendation of Mojo Donuts. There is no beer here. Just glorious, wonderful, and amazing donuts (plus coffee). The maple bacon bar is unmatched anywhere else in the world.
