This is an absolutely horrible change to an already declining site. I can’t imagine how anyone would think that removing a tool that helped gauge interest would even be remotely close to a good idea.
I’ve successfully used OKCupid several times in the past to find dates, one of those relationships even blossomed and lasted a full year. It wasn’t a horrible relationship, nor did it end badly, it just ended. If I could go back in time and do it again I would in an instant.
However, right now, I have 723 likes. I can’t tell who they are unless I pay through the nose for A-List ($19.99 for a month, $60.00 for a 6 month package?) for what, so I can see who likes me and not even be able to tell if they genuinely like me or just happened to swipe in the wrong direction?
The fact of the matter is, visitors were a way to easily discern who does and does not like you by seeing if they keep visiting your profile.
You really want to help make the site better? How about adding identity verification and background checks to profiles so users (more likely women) can actually see at first glance whether someone is who they say they are and if they’re crime free. A common recurring theme among every woman I’ve dated is they do a background check on me which I’m totally fine with, I would HOPE that they would be careful enough to want to do background checks.
The point is, there are actual USEFUL things you could do to improve your service that I would pay for. Identity / Background checks are something I would easily shell out money to add to my profile.
Right now, this site is about as useful as going to a bar and hitting on every random person you see. I could almost guarantee I would have more success doing that than whatever this crap is trying to accomplish.
