DrupalCon Dublin 2016
In September 2016, Ruslan Isay CEO of DrupalJedi spent an unforgettable week at DrupalCon Dublin 2016, the most significant Drupal event of the year.
Ruslan attended interesting presentations, participated in roundtables, met a “father” of Drupal and top Drupal developers from around the world. Among them, the evangelist Jeffrey McGuire, Hernani Borges de Freitas from Acquia, and Roland Molnar.
DrupalCon is the major world event devoted to Drupal. It brings together thousands of users, developers, designers and businessmen. The event takes place twice a year, once in the Western Hemisphere and once in the Eastern.
DrupalCon program is very intense and includes meetings in various formats. Except for presentations, there are CodeSprints, round tables, and informal parties. Everything to help Drupal developers from around the world to know each other and share experiences.
One of the most important events on DrupalCons is an opening speech by Dries Buytaert, Drupal creator, and project manager. Dries usually talks about the current state of Drupal, goals for the future and announces the next release. Such statements are called Driesnote.
At DrupalCon Dublin 2016 Dries pointed out the high importance of API-first initiative for Drupal. API-first is devoted to Drupal integration with other services and systems. We were happy to hear it and realize that we are ahead of time with our project DruAPI , which we have started in 2015 and already developed Drupal integration with many services!
At DrupalCon 2016 much attention was paid for comparing Drupal with other CMS. The conclusion was that Drupal is much better than many others, but not so many people know about it. The system has a powerful technical support, but not so effective informational and marketing support.
We feel this situation for a long time already and were surprised to know it exists not just in Russia. Shortly before the DrupalCon, we have prepared a video about Drupal advantages. Check it here.
Another discovery for us was the fact that many top European Drupal agencies has only one area of focus — web-development. They don’t have the design and testing departments and have a staff of 15–20 people on average. In DrupalJedi we have more than 60 professionals, and we provide a full range of digital-services! Also, European companies have some regionality. So companies from Finland makes sites for Finnish customers, French agencies mainly operates in France. DrupalJedi works with clients from all over the world.
Thanks to this Ruslan’s trip of ~7000 km we discovered a lot of new about our company. Now we feel how big we are and know that our projects and ideas go ahead of time!
Finally we came to the conclusion we do everything correctly and decided don’t slow down and continue our company development!
