As a Baton Rouge native and previous colleague to some of Alton Sterling’s friends and family, I’m crushed. My heart breaks for our black community.
Tbh, it was just a matter of time before one of these murders was caught on tape. We can only hope justice will be served.
So what can white people do? Some times we have a tendency to not speak out because “it’s not our place” or we fear our black sisters and brothers deriding us for “not understanding.”
- Acknowledge that you do not understand their point of view.
- Acknowledge that you benefit from privilege that the black community does not.
- That’s it.
