Open Letter to Congressman Tim Walberg

Families from Flint, Mich., drop off Flint water at Congressman Walberg’s office in Washington, D.C.

March 15, 2016

Dear Congressman Walberg,

As a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, you have a unique opportunity this week to question Michigan Governor Rick Snyder under oath at the committee’s hearing on the Flint Water Crisis.

As residents of the great city of Flint, Michigan, we are still waiting for answers to a number of very serious questions from the governor on this matter. It is our sincere hope that you will use this opportunity to demand answers from the governor about what he and his senior administration officials knew, when they knew it, and whether or not any steps were taken to hide information from the people of Flint.

We respectfully urge you to ask the following questions at Thursday’s hearing:

• Will you agree to publicly release all of your personal emails, personal and official emails from staff, text messages, phone records, memos, and your daily briefing documents related to the Flint Water Crisis?

• Did anyone from your staff ever brief you on concerns about lead contamination in Flint’s water prior to October 1, 2015?

• Did anyone from your staff ever brief you on a possible connection between Flint’s water supply and an increase in reported cases of Legionnaire’s disease prior to January 1, 2016?

• Did you or anyone from your staff delay the public release of lead test results at a Flint elementary school prior to a news conference on October 8, 2015?

Sincerely yours,
