I found this a very good article. The section on how not hearing the other side leads to diminished empathy especially resonated. I wonder as well about how the echo chamber has contributed to the low trust many people seem to have attached to the mainstream media. Heaven knows there is much to be critical of, but most who work for the networks or regional newspapers are hard working ethical reporters trying their best to bring fair and balanced journalism. But when the facts presented don’t coincide with the selected views that reinforce a viewer’s POV, that media is automatically dismissed as bias. Interesting that this becomes the knee-jerk reaction, rather than any objective weighing of the content.
