dunzo, the ultimate jugaad
I’ve been living in India off and on for 5 years now, and since dunzo’s happened, it’s hard to go back to the US. How else could I possibly throw a Christmas party, with specific foods, decorations, and a full adult santa costume in a matter of 3 hours, while still in meetings at my office?
I first heard about dunzo from my friend, Shahed, who became an evangelist of dunzo because they made his 1am biryani & coke zero addiction possible. I remember being a bit apprehensive at first because it felt like a genie — would it really let me wish for whatever I wanted?
And suddenly, it felt like all of Bangalore had a UI I could navigate.
Sometimes I wonder what my limits are on dunzo. One time, I wanted to have a bonfire on our terrace for a birthday party. I found a google image of the fire pit I wanted and they took the images to a metalsmith to actually custom-weld it for us. It was delivered in a rickshaw and carried up to our rooftop within a matter of a few hours. They also found me a GIANT disco ball at the last minute — I didn’t even know people still made disco balls!
I feel like a part of a giant team that can make literally anything happen.
I tell everyone about Dunzo, even people in America who don’t care at all. I can talk people’s ears off about it — because it just feels sort of magical in a way? The other day, a close friend all the way in California asked me how dunzo was doing as if it was my family member. A sign of my uncontrollable Dunzo ranting.
If I had any advice to give to you guys, it would be to be nice to the partners.
Oh, and a tip! You can create a little drop off box outside of your house (if it’s safe) and send them a picture of it, so on your way home from work you can set up Dunzo deliveries to arrive before you get there!
I’ve honestly never felt this invested in a startup succeeding, I don’t want to go back to the dark ages of my life pre-dunzo!
My life now can now keep up with my mind, if that makes sense? With Dunzo, I can go from idea -> google image -> reality in a few hours.
