Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos Introduction

Wally_Plotch: Duth? Hey, Duth? Where are we now?

Duth_Olec: Welcome, Wally! Welcome to the Nintendo NSider Fo

Duth_Olec: Welcome, Wally, to the website Medium!

Wally_Plotch: That is not what you said the first time.

Duth_Olec: Now, I know you might be thinking that at this time I would go into a detailed explanation of what Medium is, but I know you already know all about it.

Wally_Plotch: No, I don’t have a clue what Medium is.

Duth_Olec: What you need is an explanation of what this is, aka the Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos!

Wally_Plotch: No, I don’t. At all. I write your Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos.

ALFALFA: I believe he is not directing his remarks to you.

Duth_Olec: Welcome, readers of Medium, to the Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos. I am the creator, presenter, Duth Olec, and cloud of the CCC. I make this possible. I make the unpossible imprehensible. I make words up.

Wally_Plotch: You really do.

Duth_Olec: Wally Plotch is our narrator. He writes words. I’m incomprehensible. He has to comprehend it.

Wally_Plotch: If we’re introducing ourselves, then yes, I’m Wally Plotch. I used to be a stenographer at the Cosmos Court, but it was torn down. Violently. Without a warrant. Or just cause. Through chaos.

ALFALFA: Not that it would have been torn down in any other way.

Duth_Olec: ALFALFA is a robot. They just repairs things and makes sad, snarky comments.

ALFALFA: Also, grammar is important here.

Duth_Olec: I wonder if grammar would have a gender.

ALFALFA: In certain languages, perhaps.

Duth_Olec: In English, everything but proper nouns get off scot-free in terms of gender. Proper nouns? Oh man, if you don’t gender yourself, it’s chaos.

Wally_Plotch: Maybe you shouldn’t go on another tirade about that when introducing something unrelated to someone?

Duth_Olec: Maybe I should.

ALFALFA: But perhaps not.

Duth_Olec: Oh, now I definitely should.

Wally_Plotch: Erm.

Duth_Olec: Okay, okay, fine. So what is the Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos? Why, it is another universe, quite different, yet quite similar, to the one good ol’ Earth resides in. And it’s coming to the world of Medium! That’s right, these two worlds, Medium and the Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos, will collide! Don’t worry, you’ll remain safe if you follow the traffic signs. They all direct you to the Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos. There you can enjoy light banter, ridiculous laughs, nonsense humor, and witty catastrophe. Maybe even something deep. Like, you know, a deep laugh. Like Santa.

ALFALA: Of course, when he says it is coming to Medium, he means the stories will be posted on the website.

Duth_Olec: Yes, yes. It’s a series of stories I’m having Wally document here. I then send it back to some Earths. Not the one I’m from. That ship has sailed, hit an iceberg, burst into flames, caused the iceberg to then melt and overwhelm the ship with a deluge of icy water. If anyone from that Earth is reading this, um, sorry?

Wally_Plotch: These stories, so far at least, focus on three planets in the Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos: Mintop, Zhop, and Derantu. They’re neighbors. The first book, Slubes, was written, edited, released, unreleased, reviewed, rewritten, reedited, edited again, polished, and finally released.

Duth_Olec: And releashed, and respittened, and readified, and retread, and reread, and redead.

Wally_Plotch: If you say so.

Duth_Olec: Now, that book was released for purchase and is available now. It takes place on the planet Mintop, where an intergalactic conqueror threatens to invade. In the process, a crystal is shattered, the removal of which from the town of Nottle causes disasters to transpire.

Wally_Plotch: Of course, the shattering was a disaster in of itself. Now, the sequel, Darmenzi, followed on from this a year later when the crystal’s true purpose and the source of those disasters were revealed. A demon freed, the invader returned, and the crystal hung the balance.

Duth_Olec: I think you mean rigged the balance!

Wally_Plotch: As the case may be.

Duth_Olec: That second book is all released online in an in-progress, or prog version, for free. The final version will be released for purchase hopefully Spring of 2017 of whatever Earth you reside on.

Wally_Plotch: Meanwhile, coming soon, we have the third book.

Duth_Olec: Wandering Fortunes is the title, and it doesn’t have much to do with the plot of the first two books. Congratulations! You can read it while you read the previous books and not be too confused. Just confused by me. On January 1st, 2017 of your Earth (assuming you use such a calendar!), Wandering Fortunes will begin to be posted as a monthly serial. Like the previous book, this is an in-progress version, with the final version being released for purchase later. For the first time a Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos story, Wandering Fortunes, will be posted here on Medium, a new chapter each month.

Wally_Plotch: You’ll get to read what I wrote.

Duth_Olec: And the better stuff I wrote. It’s a story of science and technology, in an advanced world, cold and dark, where robot assistants are common and business is usual, and then some mages accidentally bring an absurd oddball beach ball to life and they’s too silly and chaotic for them so they let the rest of the world deal with them. Keep an eye on this space for Wandering Fortunes and the Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos, coming soon to Medium!

Wally_Plotch: Well, that was fun. It was like I was really talking to people.

Duth_Olec: You were talking to me.

Wally_Plotch: I mean like a real audience. So what was this for?

Duth_Olec: I’m actually sending this out to Mediumland. People will notice it and start reading the story when it’s posted. This is definitely a real thing that will happen. I thought I should introduce stuff a bit first. That way people aren’t absolutely confused by things. They’ll only be confused in the way I want them to be!

Slubes available for purchase on on Amazon (physical), Smashwords (ebook), Barnes & Noble (physical and ebook), iTunes (ebook)
