The opt-in book study over Work Rules! was a wonderful way to bring all departments at McNeil together to discuss culture and practices on our campus. It allowed teachers, counselors, administrators, and staff to reflect on our campus practices and consider possible new ways of working together to provide the best experience possible to faculty, staff, parents, and students.
By reading a book written for the business world, the book study asked those involved to look at our educational practices and protocols from a new perspective. It brought us together as a campus, and we had the opportunity to rethink what we do and how we do it. The conversations evolved into ways to not only improve our campus, but to re-envision what leadership can look like. Everyone had a voice, and that voice mattered to our administration. There is nothing more rewarding than working somewhere where your ideas are valued. We all crave to become part of something larger, and this provided that arena at McNeil whether you have 20 years of experience or are a first year teacher.
Being part of the book study created a professional learning opportunity that we sometimes struggle to find during the hectic school year. It was a valuable opportunity, and I hope to have more like it in the future. Go Mavs!
