The Cincinnati-based musician is the center of the theme here, singing about a girl who prefers to be with him for attention and to benefit from his influence over being with him just to hang out and have fun with no other intention.
Ibbi briefly comments on the creation of the track “We made the first demo version of the song in my friends’ basement. They were freestyling a beat for 45 minutes and produced this track while I was writing. We finished the song pretty quickly and it still is one of my favorite sessions ever.”
The tune starts with three-click count percussion and incredibly smooth guitar chords. The rhythm mixing is really tight and silky smooth, and the vocals are relaxed to match the song’s atmosphere yet remain powerful and accentuate the lyrics. The entire harmony is so cool and sparkling, and the bassline is strong. This track, in my honest opinion, ranks in the top 5 best indie songs of the year, it shines with superb production and amazing musical arrangement. “She don’t like me, she just like this lifestyle / Chill in my penthouse drink up till she wild,” the lyrics read. Very evident lyrics that adhere to the song’s central theme. How she doesn’t truly like him for who he is, but rather for what he possesses, and merely uses him to obtain what she wants. I’m most taken by the lyrics’ flow, and the freestyling is a lot of fun to sing along to. For example, “I’m a Taurus she’s a Leo so you know we get intense” is an example of free-spirited lyrics that are a lot of fun to sing along to. Overall, the song is so enjoyable that you’ll want to listen to it often after the initial listen.
